Bowers, Doris Ann (Marriage - 19 May 1945)
The Union church at Mellen was the scene of a lovely candle light wedding ceremony, Saturday evening, when Miss Doris Ann Bowers, Wausau, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Bowers, Mellen, became the bride of Clarence Hoeft, Wausau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hoeft, Abbotsford, Wis.
Preceding and following the ring service, which was read by the Rev. Mr. Thome, Mrs. George Pennick, Jr., sister of the bride, sang "Because" and "At Dawning." Mrs. Jack Dunn presided at the organ.
The bride was attired in a gown of white slipper satin. The fitted bodice was styled with a sheer beaded yoke and long, pointed sleeves and the full skirt ended in a flowing train. Her finger tip veil was attached to a beaded tiara and she carried calla lilies.
Mrs. Paul Thomson, Duluth, who attended her sister as the matron of honor, was gowned in powder blue chiffon fashioned with high neck line and long, full sleeves. She wore a matching head dress and carried a round bouquet in which flowers the color of her gown predominated.
Colonial bouquets of pink were carried by the bridesmaids, Miss Evangeline Goetzke, Schofield, and Miss Evelyn Hoeft, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their frocks of pink dotted swiss had very full skirts, heart shaped neck lines and short sleeves.
The bridegroom was attended by Merlin Hoeft, Milwaukee, and James Jordan, Wausau.
Feathery tamrack and bouquets of carnations, snapdragons, peonies and cherry blossoms, which decorated the church, also were used in the church parlors, where 100 guests were entertained at a reception following the ceremony. A dinner for the immediate families was served preceding the church ceremony at the Atcherson hotel in Mellen.
The out of town wedding guests included Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hoeft and Miss Marion Hoeft, Abbotsford; Miss Grace Voigt and Miss Helen Rodulski, Milwaukee; Mrs. Elmer Gosh and Miss Linda Voigt, Rothschild; Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hasking, Ashland; Miss Nellie Bruggeman, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bowers, Park Falls; Miss Gertrude Parsch, Miss Natalie Beilke and Miss Ruth Brekke, Wausau, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thompson, Duluth.
Upon their return from a honeymoon in Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Hoeft will reside at 625 S. Third avenue, Wausau; and will be at home to friends after June 2. Both are graduates of the Wausau Business Institute and are employed by the Marathon corporation.
